Paced By Durable Goods, Manufacturing Productivity Rises 2.6%
Manufacturing productivity increased at an annual rate of 2.6% from April through June of this year, according to revised second-quarter 2006 figures released September 6 by the U.S. Labor Department. Output rose at an annual rate of 5.1% and workers' hours increased 2.4%. Read more

UPS Opens Ontario Logistics Center
UPS has announced the opening of an 800,000-square-foot logistics campus in Burlington, Ontario, for UPS Supply Chain Solutions. The second largest UPS logistics facility in North America, the Burlington complex was built at a cost of $80 million (CAN) and takes its place in a growing strategic logistics network that includes campuses in Louisville, Ky.; Mira Loma, Calif.; Roermond, Netherlands, and Singapore. Company President Arrested For Allegedly Exporting Nuclear Weapons Equipment
The Associated Press reported on Aug. 25 the following: The president of precision instrument maker Mitutoyo Corp. was arrested in the alleged export to Malaysia of equipment that can be used in making nuclear weapons, officials said Friday. Read more
