June U.S. manufacturing technology consumption totaled $322.68 million, according to AMT -- The Association For Manufacturing Technology and AMTDA, the American Machine Tool Distributors' Association.

Small Decline in July Manufacturing Orders
Following two consecutive monthly increases, new orders for manufactured goods decreased in July, the U.S. Commerce Department reported on August 31. Last month’s decline was six-tenths of a percent, to $405.1 billion. Read more
Esmark Seeks Merger with Wheeling-Pitt
Upstart service-center chain Esmark Inc. continues to fight for its proposed merger with Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel saying it offers better value than Wheeling-Pitt’s merger plan with Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN.) Esmark president and CFO Craig T. Bouchard released a statement blasting Wheeling-Pitt’s management, in particular chairman and CEO James G. Bradley, and the suitability of CSN as a business partner. Manufacturing Sheds 11,000 More Jobs
The manufacturing sector of the U.S. economy, which lost 23,000 jobs in July, shed another 11,000 jobs in August, the U.S. Labor Department reported on September 1. The majority of the losses -- 8,000 jobs -- were among producers of durable goods. Read more
