U.S. Manufacturing Resumes Its Expansion
Despite diminished consumer demand, rising interest rates and higher prices for commodities ranging from corrugated boxes to fuel oil, the manufacturing sector of the U.S. economy grew faster last month than it had in June, according to data released Aug. 1 by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), Tempe, Ariz. Tax Bill Pulled From House Floor
The Business Activity Tax Simplification Act of 2005 opposed by logistics groups was pulled from the floor of the House of Representatives without a vote. As written, the bill would allow states to tax businesses with tangible assets (including inventory) in a state for 21 days. Read more
